Improvement work is being carried out starting at the end of August
A major roundabout in the Hessle area will be closed for five Sundays while improvements works are carried out. The surface is set to be improved at the ‘Darleys’ roundabout on Boothferry Road.
The work will run across five consecutive Sundays, starting on August 31 and continuing throughout September. It will involve the removal of the carriageway surface and its replacement with newer, durable, and quieter surface materials, as well as the renewal of gullies and utility covers.
The roundabout will be fully closed to traffic during working hours on each Sunday, which are scheduled to be between 8am and 7pm, to ensure the safety of workers and maximise productivity. Signed diversion routes will be in place to guide traffic around the closure.
The roundabout will be open as usual outside of these working hours, and businesses nearby will remain open during the works. The project, which is estimated to cost £123,000, is part of an £18 million capital investment in highway maintenance by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said “We’re committed to investing in our essential infrastructure and ensuring the durability of our roads. We apologise for any inconvenience these improvements may cause, and are grateful for the community’s understanding while we carry out this scheme.”
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Hessle near the A63, Hull City Council has confirmed works will take place on Priory Way later this month. The surface is set to be renewed from the junction with Saxon Way to the top of the A63 westbound exit slip road on nights from August 26 to 29.
