Plans to convert a former city centre cinema and bingo hall into a church have been approved.

Hull City Council gave the go ahead for the Calvary International Christian Centre (CICC) church on the corner of Ferensway and Anlaby Road.

Originally a Cecil Cinema, the building has remained empty since Mecca Bingo moved out more than two years ago.

CICC currently holds services at the Reel Cinema in St. Stephen’s shopping centre.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the limited plans submitted show the church would have a main auditorium on the ground floor.

CICC has operations in various cities across the world including Manchester, Johannesburg, and Leeds.
