City are still keen on adding to their ranks in the next two weeks
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says the club are close to adding another new signing to their squad ahead of Saturday’s MKM Stadium meeting with Blackburn Rovers.
City have so far made 11 signings since the window opened, and the Bosnian has revealed he’s 80 per cent sure the so far unnamed player will complete a move to the club in the coming days to make it 12.
The player in question is a midfielder, capable of operating in the deep-lying number six role, or further forward in the more advanced number eight position.
Adding further to the engine room has been a key wish of Jakirovic in recent weeks, and that process was stepped up after Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer opted to join Championship rivals West Brom last week.
City are still working under tight restrictions imposed on them by the EFL, and it’s likely the club will need to move one player out before they can bring one in.
That exit could yet be Abu Kamara, who remains in talks with Spanish La Liga side Getafe, though he came off the bench to play his part in City’s 3-2 win over Oxford United on Sunday afternoon.
“Eighty-twenty per cent that he’s coming here, but until he’s here, we cannot relax. He can play in the number six or eight position. We are still working hard,” the Bosnian said of City’s latest work.
Jakirovic says he would like one more addition in the defensive ranks to cover for Semi Ajayi’s hamstring injury but given their limitations with the EFL, that may not be possible though it won’t stop the head coach asking owner Acun Ilicali.
“The chairman will kill me if I ask for one more defender, but I will ask,” he joked. “I always ask for something because this is my job, so I must. I need to ask, so what will happen in the end? You will see, if you don’t ask him, like with a woman, you must ask.”
