Northern Gas Networks says ‘it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to local homes and businesses’
Essential gas works on Wincolmlee in Hull are expected to last until late September. The road has been shut between the Air Street and Bankside Park junctions.
Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, said it is carrying out the work to replace ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes. The work, which began on July 22 and is expected to last until September 29, has been planned in collaboration with Hull City Council.
The traffic measures have been put in place so that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public. NGN says the work will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.
Christopher Keith, operations manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.
“However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to local homes and businesses. Our teams are working hard to complete the replacement and reopen the road as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work, contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk. NGN say that anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
In addition to the Wincolmlee closure, NGN are currently undertaking works at a number of other sites across the city including two separate lane closures in place on Beverley Road. There is also a road closure at the junction of St George’s Road and Hessle Road due to gas main installation.
Meanwhile, the council has published a list of road closures specifically related to Coldplay’s concerts at Craven Park next week.
