The Tigers’ winger could be on his way out of the club

Hull City are in talks with three clubs over a permanent move away from the MKM Stadium for winger Abu Kamara, with growing expectation that a deal could be completed soon.

Spanish La Liga side Getafe are leading the chase, who City faced in their final pre-season outing earlier this month, but Birmingham City and Rangers have also lodged bids for the 21-year-old winger, Hull Live understands. Talks are ongoing and it is now expected Kamara has played his final game for the Tigers.

Kamara has attracted interest throughout the summer with Rangers and former loan club Portsmouth keen, but it now looks like Madrid-based Getafe may well get their man if the finer details of the sale can be thrashed out.

City are reluctant to part with Kamara, who joined on deadline day last summer from Norwich City. The club’s position is they would only consider selling the London-born performer if they recoup the money they paid the Canaries, which is around £3.5m. That transfer fee now looks like it will be met, which has opened the door on an exit.

Should Kamara move on, and there’s a growing feeling that a deal will be done soon, then City will go back into the market and look to bring in a replacement, in addition to David Akintola.

The Tigers currently have Joel Ndala as their only fit winger aside from Kamara, with Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi not yet fit enough to return to action. The expectation is both could return after the first international break of the season at the end of this month.

Joe Gelhardt’s return to the club does give Sergej Jakirovic a short-term option, which enables him to play on the right and Ndala on the left, but bringing in another wide player would be of paramount importance, especially given the length of time Millar and Belloumi have been out of action.

Kamara started City’s Championship opener at Coventry City on Saturday, but was left on the bench for Tuesday night’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Wrexham in North Wales before coming off to slot home his penalty in the shoot-out defeat.

Last term, Kamara played 36 times in the league and scored five goals, which saw him finish joint-second top scorer along with Gelhardt, just one behind Joao Pedro.

Meanwhile, City still do not know if they will be able to buy players before the transfer window closes on September 1 at 7pm, under the terms of the three-window transfer fee ban slapped on them by the EFL at the beginning of July.

Frustration is growing that more than a week after the club’s appeal hearing, they are yet to receive any indication of whether their appeal was successful or not, despite initially being told they’d find out within 48 hours.

Because of the delay, City can still not register Brandon Williams and winger David Akintola, and it also leaves Reda Laalaoui and Gustavo Puerta in limbo.
