Oliver McBurnie says he’s relishing the chance to come up against his and Hull City‘s former manager Phil Parkinson on Tuesday night when the Tigers face Wrexham in the first round of the Carabao Cup at the Racecourse.

The 29-year-old was given his senior debut by Parkinson at Valley Parade in 2014, before sending him on loan to play in the National League with Chester. There was speculation earlier this summer that the Racecourse chief was eyeing up a transfer move before he joined the Tigers last week.

McBurnie is set to feature in North Wales as City face Wrexham for the first time in a competitive game since 2005 as he looks to step up his fitness, having played the final 30 minutes in Saturday’s opening day draw at Coventry City.

The forward only signed on Wednesday and had not played a single minute of football during pre-season, but came off the bench to help the Tigers claim a valuable point to kick off their campaign with a positive result.

He’ll feature against Parkinson’s men, whether from the start or off the bench, and he says there will be no surprises from a team managed by the ex-City boss who clocked up one thousand games in his managerial career last season.

“Yeah, (Phil) Parkinson was my manager at Bradford when I came through there as well, so I know them and what they’re about,” an excited McBurnie told Hull Live ahead of the trip across to the principality. “I know him and Steve Parkin (assistant).

“Their teams have always been the same, they’ll always be the same, and I know what they bring. They’ve signed a few boys, a few of the boys who I know as well.

“It’s another big game, just the thrills of playing in English football straight into it, straight into the cup. Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday; that’s what we live for.”
