A fundraising Colour Run and family event has been hailed as “amazing” and the Hull schoolgirls who organised it are now progressing plans for their next big occasion.
Lifestyle team No more Mehhs held the sponsored Colour Run on Saturday, August 2, during a wider family fun event at Springhead and Derringham Community Hub in the city. The girls – Macie, Ellie, Maria and Autumn, who are all aged 12 or 13 – are supporting local charity Kids with their efforts.
Macie’s mum Becky said: “The Colour Run was an amazing event. On the day, 40-plus people turned up and collectively raised £1,100 towards the cause.
“The girls had arranged for stalls to be present on the day, with bouncy castles and fun activities so the children had loads to do. Everyone had massive smiles and got very messy.”
Becky said the event, one of a number the No more Mehhs are planning this summer, demonstrated their “dedication and resilience”. She said: “What makes it even more spectacular is that the girls became overwhelmed at points in the day and used their skills, built up through Kids charity exposure, to overcome any anxieties they felt.
“All the girls where shattered at the end of the day but they did amazingly and we are so proud of each and every one of them. Considering these are four girls with neurodiverse conditions, to be able to plan, organise and inspire families to participate in such a fantastic event, is beyond amazing.
“Their dedication to creating an inclusive environment inspires others. They are now preparing themselves for their next big event.”
On Thursday, August 28, from 3pm to 6pm, the No more Mehhs will be bringing the local community together again in a “giant inclusive fun day for all ages”. There will be more than 25 stalls, bouncy castles, slush drinks, food, games and lots of exciting experiences for all.
It will be again be held at Springhead and Derringham Community Hub in partnership with Kids. “Their hope is that people can join the event and will have access to the community support systems that are available in the area – from charities to clubs to local businesses,” said Becky.
“It is going to be an amazing event and fully accessible. They have even created a quiet corner to ensure sensory needs are taken into consideration. These girls are just unstoppable.”
