Hull KR will be without one of their key players for the next two matches.

Willie Peters has a major selection call to make following the suspension of star half-back Tyrone May.

May, 29, has copped a two-match ban after ‘questioning the integrity of a match official’ during his side’s dominant 74-12 win over Salford Red Devils in Super League Round 20.

The Aussie will miss this week’s home clash against Castleford Tigers and, more significantly, the top-of-the-table showdown with reigning champions Wigan Warriors in a fortnight. Rovers travel to the Brick Community Stadium on Friday, August 15, for what could be a decisive clash in the race for the League Leaders’ Shield.

Hull KR are already without back-up half-back Danny Richardson due to injury, leaving head coach Peters with a selection decision ahead of the next two Super League fixtures.

The most straightforward solution would be to move Jez Litten into the halves alongside Mikey Lewis, with the hooker comfortably filling the role in the past. With Micky McIlorum returning from injury and starting, Bill Leyland could slot in as the interchange hooker for the next two games.

France international Arthur Mourgue is another star with experience in the halves. However, moving him would likely trigger a domino effect. If the 26-year-old shifts into the vacant position, Jack Broadbent would likely take over at full-back, which in turn would require a new centre.

Peta Hiku is also an option, having played in the halves earlier this season to cover for injuries at Sewell Group Craven Park. But this too would require a new centre, with James Batchelor having already filled in at that position this year.

May has missed just two Super League games all year and leaves huge boots to fill, but Litten has impressed already in the halves this season, including his Challenge Cup heroics against rivals Hull FC.

The England international appears to be the obvious choice, with Hull KR eyeing up their first-ever League Leaders’ Shield with a four-point advantage at the top of the table.
