The council said there has been an underspend in Levelling Up funding and new businesses can now submit an expression of interest
A grant scheme has relaunched which aims to bring vacant properties back into use as well as support new jobs. The council said that there has been an underspend in Levelling Up funding, and as a result, there are now opportunities for businesses to submit an expression of interest to the scheme.
Hull City Council was previously awarded £19.5m of Government funding in 2021, of which £7.5m was allocated to creating a city centre grants scheme. A limited amount of funding is still available and so the scheme has now been reopened for new applications.
These will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The council says that applications will need to be supported by a credible and deliverable business plan.
31 businesses have been supported already through the funding. This includes ResQ, which was supported by £750,000 of funding.
The money was used towards the £3m refurbishment of the former Hammonds of Hull building. ResQ now occupies four floors and has welcomed hundreds of new employees as a result.
The council says that the grant scheme has helped to bring 19 buildings back in total. 14 heritage buildings have also been restored.
The funding has also supported close to 900 new jobs across the city. It has also helped to bring around £13 million of private investment to Hull, according to the council.
