The Tigers are hoping their punishment is reduced at the very least
Hull City will have their appeal against a three-window transfer fee restriction heard on Wednesday afternoon by an independent panel.
City were slapped with the punishment by the EFL early last month after accumulating more than 30 days of late transfer payments in the past year.
The Tigers launched an appeal against what they believe is a strong punishment immediately, but have had to wait for the three-person panel to be put together and a suitable date found to conduct the hearing, which will be done remotely.
It’s understood that City expects to hear the outcome of the appeal within 48 hours of Wednesday’s hearing, with an appreciation from all sides that clarity is needed as soon as possible.
City kick off their new Championship season at Coventry City on Saturday lunchtime and will hope to know where they stand by that point.
Club bosses believe they have a strong case to have the punishment overturned, or at the very least, reduced significantly, but their hopes rest on an independent panel of three people, one of whom is expected to be a member of the King’s Counsel (KC).
Despite working under those restrictions, City have been able to add a host of players to their squad, either on loan or free transfers, to boost Sergej Jakirovic’s options.
Semi Ajayi, Dillon Phillips, Akin Famewo, and Enis Destan have all joined on free transfers, with Joel Ndala and John Lundstram arriving on loan from Manchester City and Trabzonspor, respectively.
David Akintola is expected to join on a free transfer once his visa application has been approved by the Home Office, and former Manchester United star Brandon Williams is on trial in the hope of sealing a permanent move that could be wrapped up this week.
Reda Laalaoui arrived back in June in a deal worth around £400,000 but that deal has not been sanctioned by the EFL, nor has Gustavo Puerta’s £3.5m move from Bayer Leverkusen.
The club had hoped to sign striker Oliver McBurnie, but gave him a deadline to commit to the club, or they would move on to other targets. A move for Westerlo forward Matija Frigan is dependent on the ban being lifted.
