Salford Red Devils’ Jack Ormondroyd left irritated after an altercation with Hull KR’s Mikey Lewis in his side’s record defeat against the Robins.

Hull KR boss Willie Peters watched his side rack up a record win over shambolic Salford but fumed: “This isn’t good for anyone.” Rovers duo Mikey Lewis and Joe Burgess ran riot in a 14-try demolition.

Man of Steel Lewis produced EIGHT try assists, furnishing winger Burgess four times as the Super League leaders put the boot in on the doomed basement boys. Crisis-torn Red Devils’ messy campaign just goes from bad to worse to ludicrous.

With beleaguered players yet again left sweating on their pay packets this week, the future continues to look bleak. It was another embarrassing night for Super League which has seen negative headlines aplenty this week after a controversial decision to increase to 14 clubs in 2026.

Salford, who have now lost 18 of their 20 games, already know they will more than likely get dumped out of the comp’ by IMG’s gradings after being left in a financial mess by new owners who, bizarrely, claim they will still somehow do enough to stay up.

But Peters fired: “It’s a sad situation that we’re in. And more so Salford. It’s not good for anyone, it’s on TV, we’re trying to get the audiences, so that does not help anyone.

“It doesn’t help [Salford boss] Paul Rowley and the players. It’s a weird feeling because when you win games it’s hard and you want to enjoy it.

“But it’s an empty feeling because of the situation people are in and others need to be made accountable. I feel sorry for them, especially those fans who pay every week to come and watch their team play.”

Salford’s new owners have come under huge criticism all season after a botched takeover has left them still in special measures. Although wages were eventually delivered on Wednesday, Rowley had to make do without five of his few remaining senior players.

Ex-England prop Chris Hill, Joe Shorrocks, Ethan Ryan, Chris Hankinson and second-row Dan Russell were all in the 21-man squad yet surprisingly didn’t feature last night amid reports they refused to play.

On his own side’s display, as they went four points clear at the top, Peters added: “We had a really positive start and then had 15 minute period where we gave a couple of penalties away, were a bit ill-disciplined and then we had a soft try through the middle.

“We found our groove again at the end of the first half. And, in the second half, we suffocated them, scored some nice tries but, again, I was not happy at all with their try [in the second period].”
