An East Yorkshire salon owner whose team has won acclaim for helping clients suffering with hair loss is hoping to do the triple next year at the Englands Business Awards after winning back-to-back accolades. Teresa Abba, 47, has had an affiliation with Passion Hair, in Welton Road, Brough for two decades where she was first an employee and later became the owner of the salon.

Her team has now taken the title of the best hair salon in East Yorkshire under the Yorkshire Retail Business Awards banner — which is part of the overall Business Awards. Winning the award two years in a row was an unexpected surprise for Teresa but she said it was a testament to the hard work of her team and the customer service offered at the salon.

She said: “I knew we got to the final four because we were invited to the awards’ evening. This year was more exciting because there was double the people there and more people had been nominated.”

“I have more time to focus on the business over the last three or four years now my children are grown up and I have given it my all. I would like to give a big thank you to our clients. The team are all absolutely elated and we have had some lovely, supportive comments on social media as well.”

The judging process included secret shoppers, other judging processes and a public vote. Teresa’s team has expanded since they won the award last year which included senior stylist Terrie Pascal, stylist Emilia Kyle and assistant manager Rosemarie Hurren.

New additions to the team which won the 2025 award are junior stylist Philippa Stamp and Kirsty Stephenson who works in beauty for the salon. Teresa added that the team all have their own strengths and come together to offer clients a holistic approach to hair and beauty.

The awards dinner was again held at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds and success for the second year running at the event has spurred the team forward. The salon has both appointments and walk-in services available for its clientele plus the added bonus of some recent additional services.

“We would love to do more competitions in the future. We have added a sun bed and we do aesthetics now which is great, we are a one stop shop,” said Teresa.

“Some of my clients I have had since I was in my early 20s, they have stuck around with me since and are very loyal. I think the key is to our success is that our team make people feel welcome.”

“You have to offer a lot of things, keep up with trends and training. We are constantly doing extra training courses to move with the times. We also specialise in hair loss systems for ladies and that has put us out there, made us more well-known.

“I specialise in helping ladies with hair loss, extensions and colouring. It’s so rewarding. We are finding that the need for this is quite common now because people are more open about discussing it.”
