The Reds players have not been paid as expected today.
Salford Red Devils’ players have not been paid today as anticipated. The squad was informed that the plan was to pay their wages today, but that has not materialised ahead of their game with Hull KR tomorrow.
Salford players are routinely paid on the last Thursday of the month, which is tomorrow, but with the team playing on the same day, they were told the plan was to pay them today so they could focus on the game against the Robins.
As a result, training was moved to this evening, rather than the day time, but the players were later informed that they would not be getting paid today and the scheduled session did not take place as a result. Some of the players did get together for a small session themselves, though it was not a full session as was anticipated.
The timing of this is particularly awkward given they play tomorrow at home to Super League’s table-topping side. Previously, players have made threats not to play games due to concerns, but generally speaking, the vast majority of players have put their hand up to play in games this season. There is no suggestion at this point that the players won’t play the game.
But it’s another distraction and further unwanted news for Salford and their players, who have done it throughout the season with the club’s future in a perilous position.
It’s unclear at this point whether the club will have paid the players before kick-off of tomorrow’s game.
