Hull City have named former Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams in their squad to face Sunderland at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday night.

Williams has been taken on trial by the Tigers and was named on the bench against the Premier League newboys as he looks to try and earn a deal.

City are in the market for cover at left-back, and Williams will be given the chance to impress new head coach Sergej Jakirovic over the next few days ahead of the new season, having not played a competitive game since a loan spell at Ipswich Town in September 2023.

The 24-year-old has endured a difficult past and was given a 14-month prison sentence back in May, suspended for two years after being found guilty of dangerous driving following a crash a couple of years earlier. He was banned from driving for three years, and told to do 180 hours of community service, but will hope to get his life back on track in East Yorkshire.

City also named Manchester City loanee Joel Ndala on the bench, but there was no Akin Famewo. The defender’s move to the MKM Stadium was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon, but it’s understood he has picked up a slight injury in training over the past few days.

Left-sided winger Ndala has joined the club on loan from the Premier League giants for the duration of the new campaign.

Tigers starting XI: Pandur, Giles, Hughes (c), Ajayi, Drameh, Slater, Palmer, Crooks, Tinsdale, Kamara, Joseph. Subs: Phillips, Vaughan, Egan, Ndala, Brown, Sellars-Fleming, Wadsworth, Shehu, McCarthy, Carter, Okike, Williams.
