Work to tackle drainage issues on a road in Cottingham will take place in August. The £125,000 scheme on Newgate Street will also see the road surface upgraded with three weeks of work set to start on Monday, August 11.

Road and lane closures will be in place at certain times while the project is carried out along with temporary traffic lights. East Riding Of Yorkshire Council says the scheme will start with repairs to the road surface on Newgate Street between and including the junctions of King Street and Longmans Lane.

King Street will be closed to traffic for two nights, on Monday 11 and Tuesday, August 12 only, between 7pm and midnight. Newgate Street will remain open but two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Meanwhile, damaged kerbs and channels in Newgate Street will be replaced during the daytime, working from 9.30am to 3.30pm, together with investigatory work to rectify drainage problems along the road.

During the daytime work, lane closures will be in operation approaching the King Street junction to allow for work to be carried out to the edge of the road. Resurfacing work on the road is due to be completed on the evening of Friday, August 29.

On that night, King Street will need to be closed again between 7pm and midnight. Newgate Street will remain open but two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place.
