Race for Life has been a firm fixture on Hull’s calendar for many years. On Sunday, July 27, it makes its return again with eager competitors out in force to support the work of Cancer Research UK.

The Hull 5K course starts and finishes at the Costello Stadium, Anlaby Park Road North. Participants of all ages will be doing their bit, walking, jogging or running towards the finish line for the cause.

And supporters are invited to cheer them on in their endeavours. A total of more than ten million people have taken part in Race for Life events across the UK since 1994, fundraising for the cancer charity.

The initiative has raised over £970m towards life-saving cancer research since it began 30 years ago. With the money collectively raised, Cancer Research UK has helped develop radiotherapy that helps 130,000-plus people with cancer in the UK every year.

Hull Live has had a dip into the archive ahead of Sunday’s event. There are Race for Life pictures dating as far back as the late 1990s – can you spot yourself in any of them?
