12 key roads are set to get an upgrade as Hull City Council is launching its annual surface dressing programme.

The council says these works will improve safety and extend the lifespan of the roads. This year will focus on roads that form part of Hull’s major road network and main bus routes, which are showing early signs of wear and deterioration.

The city-wide programme will begin on Monday 21 July and is scheduled to be completed by Thursday 31 July, weather permitting. No work will take place over the weekend.

The roads that are included as part of the programme, as well as the proposed dates and traffic management arrangements, are as follows:

  • Monday, July 21: Orchard Park Road. Ellerburn Avenue to Cladshaw, 9am-4pm. Stop/Go.
  • Monday, July 21: Queens Road. Beverley Road to Princes Avenue, 6am-8am. Stop/Go.

Road closure notices have been erected – where needed – and letter drops will be carried out prior to the start of works at each location. In addition, the contractor will distribute leaflets with further details about the works and what residents can expect.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “Surface dressing is essential for keeping these roads in the city well-maintained and safe for all road-users.

“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient, and we’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption.

“Thank you to residents and road users for your patience while we carry out these essential improvements.”
