Battle re-enactments, dressing up and painting huge planes have all been part and parcel of Fort Paull’s colourful history.

In more recent times, two local business partners have been working to restore the Holderness artillery battery as a heritage site and events venue. Over this weekend (July 5 and 6) it is the turn of Hull and East Riding Well-being Festival to enjoy the backdrop of the site as it runs a programme of talks, treatments, therapies and music.

More events are planned for the summer and the “Two Nicks” who run Fort Paull, Nick Taylor and Nick Moore, recently announced that during a multi-period event they are hosting on September 20 and 21, a fly-over from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster Bomber will take place. So it is all go for the location.

Below, you can see how Fort Paull used to look and what it was offering its visitors by way of entertainment, thanks to a dig-around in the Hull Daily Mail archives, in the early 2000s and onwards, before the site closed and was “mothballed” for a time.
