Here’s a run down of some of the planning applications that have recently been approved by Hull City Council, which include plans for new Barclays bank in Hull city centre.

New Barclays bank

The council has approved an application for a new Barclays bank branch at 21-23 King Edward Street in Hull city centre. The application, which was given the greenlight this week, is for a branch with a customer service area, private banking spaces, and self service kiosks. The branch would also have an ATM cash machine on the exterior.

The applications raises questions about the future of the existing Barclays Bank branch at Queen Victoria Square, just a stone’s throw from the new site. When the application was first brought to light earlier this year, the bank declined to comment on what the new site would mean for the existing branch which is less than 100 yards away.

Change of use of former Leisureland site

The council has also approved plans for the change of use of the former Leisureland premises on King Edward Street. The former amusement arcade that sits across the road from Yankee Land could soon become retail space or even a restaurant after a change of use application was approved by the council. The plans only apply to the ground floor and basement of the building. When it became apparent that the arcade would be closing in 2018 it appeared at the time that a gelato cafe would take its place, however this never came to fruition.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s new ambulance station off Clough Road has taken another important step forward as Hull City Council has approved an application for external changes to the warehouse that will soon house the vehicles. Having previously approved an application for the change of use of the building to become an ambulance station, the council has now given the go-ahead for the recladding on the building and new signage.
