The final stage of a road and footpath improvement scheme in East Yorkshire is due to begin next month.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is investing £400,000 to upgrade the road surface along West Green, between Canal Lane and Railway Street, in Pocklington, over the school holidays. The scheme follows major work already carried out in Market Place, Market Square, Union Street and Railway Street.
The final phase of works is due to begin on Monday, July 21, with work being carried out on weekdays from 9am to 5pm. It is expected to last five weeks, weather permitting.
A schedule of the works has been released by the council and is as follows:
- Monday July 21 to Friday 1 August – Footpath repairs and kerb renewals will be carried out and temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place. This will be in preparation for slurry surfacing later in the year to seal some parts of the path.
- Monday 4 to Friday 22 August – Road resurfacing and drainage works are due to take place under a temporary road closure during the daytime, from 9am-5pm. The road will reopen at the end of each day.
A signed traffic diversion will be in place via A1079, The Balk and Station Road, and temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction with the Balk to help with the additional traffic. Businesses will still have access during working hours, and residents, emergency services, bin collections and postal services will also be given access throughout the scheme.
Some bus stops in the area will see changes with people encouraged to check their local bus operator for more information.

Adam Holmes, director of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This phase will bring our essential road improvements for Pocklington’s town centre to a close.
“Thank you to drivers, local residents and businesses for their support of the work so far, and we hope that continues for the upgrade of West Green.
“Some delays are expected during the last section, with a diversion and three-way lights in place, and we’d like to thank motorists for their patience.”
The work will be carried out on behalf of the council by contractor Britcon Ltd.
