Hull chippy Pollard’s Plaice could be named Yorkshire’s Best Fish and Chips for the second year in a row after reaching the final.
The Holderness Road takeaway has been run by husband and wife team Sonny and Katie Pollard since 2015. They regularly offer impressive deals for customers, such as £1 fish and chips, resulting in queues down the street.
Pollard’s Plaice already won Best Fish & Chips in Yorkshire in the England Business Awards in last year’s competition. The news they had another chance to win came as a shock.
Sonny told Hull Live: “It feels amazing. We really didn’t think we would make the final again after winning last year. “
When asked what makes Pollard’s Plaice so popular with its loyal regulars, Sonny said: “I think because we go to Grimsby docks ourselves for fresh haddock, our customers really like that.
“Also, because we do this, it means that when we get a deal on the market we can offer this back to our customers with discounted prices.
“Unfortunately prices at the moment are really high as recently Faroe has just had a bank holiday, it was fisherman’s holiday in Iceland and Greenland halibut season in Norway.
“But we are hoping things improve over the coming weeks and we can get back to doing special offers for all our loyal patrons.”
To vote for Pollard’s Plaice, you can fill in the form on the Business Awards website.
Sonny added: “They say to win the award two years in a row would be very rare so absolutely every vote counts if we are in with a chance.”
