Hull City’s former head of recruitment Lee Darnbrough, has landed a new job just across the city from the club he left earlier this year 12 months on from his MKM Stadium departure.

Darnbrough has joined Port Vale following their promotion to League One, an appointment which comes just a few months after he left the Valiants’ arch-rivals, Stoke City.

Vale boss Darren Moore hailed the arrival of Darnbrough, who spent seven years at City before heading to the Potteries to link up with the Potters, as the club prepares for an assault on League One following their impressive promotion as runners-up to Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers.

“Lee is a senior head of recruitment, so he comes with a huge wealth of experience. I’ve known Lee a long time from our days working together at West Brom. He is somebody who I have already kept in contact with over the years as we have had different roles at different clubs,” boss Darren Moore told Port Vale’s TV channel.

“He’s somebody that is very much aligned to our thinking, he’s somebody with a lot of experience in the game, really smart, really astute, and I think he further enhances the recruitment department and the staffing structure of the club.

“I’m really, really pleased to have him on board. It’s something that was spoken about for some time, it’s not a knee-jerk reaction. As we are trying to build a team on the pitch, structurally we are trying to build a football club too and that’s really important.”

Darnbrough left City this time last year and was replaced by Jared Dublin, who he took over from at the bet365 Stadium. Dublin has since been promoted to sporting director at the MKM Stadium, with Martin Hodge coming in as head of recruitment.
