Former Hull FC full-back Jamie Shaul has been handed a hefty six-game suspension after a red card offence during Goole Vikings’ game with Workington Town last month.

In fact, the now 32-year-old has been slapped with the biggest penalty point punishment to date under the new RFL disciplinary system, with the Hull-born speedster handed a huge 36 points – automatically ruling him out for six games.

Shaul was sent off after being in the thick of a fight during the clash in Cumbria. He was subsequently red-carded, and after receiving a Grade E charge from the Match Review Panel, was issued a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday night.

The tribunal found Shaul guilty of Grade E punching. His full charge read: ‘Law 15.1 (a). Punching– makes contact with the head of an opponent. Grade E.’

Shaul will now sit out the next six Goole games. After hanging up his boots while at Hull in 2023, he came out of retirement to feature for the League 1 outfit in their inaugural season this year, playing under former Hull teammate Scott Taylor. He has made ten appearances for the East Yorkshire club to date, scoring five tries.

The Vikings sit eighth in rugby league’s third tier after nine matches. They have won two games so far and are currently on a period of games away from home as their Victoria Pleasure Ground undergoes improvements.

Goole next play Dewsbury Rams in West Yorkshire on Friday 13 June.
