A Hull city centre hotel resembled Mos Eisley spaceport as characters from a galaxy far, far away flocked to celebrate a Star Wars-themed convention.

Aptly taking place on ‘Star Wars Day’ – May the 4th – hundreds headed to the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel for Star-Con. Darth Vader, stormtroopers, Princess Leia, Yoda, Chewbacca and many more characters filled the venue for the convention organised by Luxx Events.

Husband and wife duo Amanda and Peter Marriott, said: “We both love Star Wars and what’s better than running an event to celebrate the world of Star Wars, and that’s when Star-Con became a reality. This is our second year in Hull and we are once again excited to bring this event back to all those who have the same love and passion as we do for all things geeky, especially Star Wars”.

As well as cosplay characters and movie-set backdrops from various movie-themed locations, guests could also enjoy having their picture taken on an X-Wing fighter, with loveable droid R2-D2 or on a Land Speeder bike. Star Wars merchandise, comics and tabletop gaming was also available throughout the day and visitors could learn moves from the Saber School workshops.

Fans could also meet people who worked on the films including English actor Ross Sambridge who was a body double for Andy Serkis as Snoke in The Last Jedi, and played a Wookiee slave in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Others attending included James Taylor, a regular on set who has taken on roles such as a stormtrooper and as a double for Captain Phasma in the death scene in The Last Jedi, and Trevor Butterfield who has played roles such as an Imperial officer and a stormtrooper.
