Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says he will give Brandon Williams time to prove he’s worthy of a deal at the MKM Stadium. after handing him 20 minutes in the 2-1 win over Sunderland on Tuesday night. Jakirovic says he believes everyone deserves a second chance.

Williams has endured a nightmare period in recent times and was handed a suspended jail sentence back in May for dangerous driving, with his promising career going off the rails, but will be given a chance by the Bosnian.

The 24-year-old, who burst onto the scene at Manchester United as a youngster, will remain at City on trial in the hope of earning a deal with the Tigers in the coming weeks.

“I like to help people because everyone deserves a second chance in life,” the Bosnian told Hull Live after the victory over the Black Cats.

“I spoke with him very honestly, and I explained to him what I expect from him. We will be very careful, very, very slow. We have time, so we will try to help him.

“I think the quality is there because he was on a high level at Man United, so his quality is there. We need him to bring good fitness, and then we will make a decision. For me, his mentality is good. From our conversations, he’s a very normal guy.

“He just asked me yesterday (Monday), ‘can I play?’ and then I asked him, ‘do you feel comfortable to play some minutes?’

“His desire is there, and so is the hard work. On Saturday, we left here here in Hull to carry on training and so far, everything has gone according to the plan.”

On the game, Jakirovic felt there was a big improvement from Saturday’s win at Stockport County, though he felt Kamara should have added to his tally when he drilled wide in the first half from Ryan Giles’ cross.

Overall, though, the Tigers chief was pleased with what he saw against the Black Cats, as City made it five straight pre-season wins ahead of their final outing against Getafe on Saturday.

“Yes, I’m very happy with what I saw today because when you watch the Stockport game, I think it was much, much better,” he continued. “Especially on the ball, without the ball. We ran very, very well, and our pressing was good.

“We scored (Tinsdale) after pressing the opponent, so I’m really happy. Maybe this chance from Abu, but he did everything well, not perfect, because scoring the (first) goal is perfect, but we improved a lot of things, and this is very good for us as a team.”
