A Hull GP practice has been so successful in meeting the needs of its patients, it has been hailed an example for other surgeries to follow.

Laurbel Surgery was rated as outstanding following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in June. The Hull GP practice is in Main Road, just outside Bilton.

Run by Dr Navin Jaiveloo, it provides services to around 3,600 residents. The CQC upgraded the rating from good to outstanding due to how caring, responsive, and well-led the surgery is, while ratings for safe and effective were again rated good.

Alan Stephenson, CQC deputy director of operations in South and East Yorkshire, said: “When we inspected Laurbel Surgery, we found a service that embraced learning and innovation to provide the best possible care to people.

“In the national GP survey, 87% of people said they had a good overall experience using the service, which is significantly higher than other local and national averages.

“We received feedback from people telling us they felt respected and valued as individuals. This was echoed with what we saw in the GP survey with 95% of people feeling their needs were met during their last appointment, higher than the national average of 90%.

“It was impressive to see how many residents they had encouraged to take up cervical cancer screenings and childhood immunisations, which was recognised by the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.

“The ICB had even asked Laurbel to share their knowledge and processes with other practices.

“All staff should be extremely proud of the standard of care they provide to their local community. Other practices should look to Laurbel Surgery and this report as an example of good care and to see what they could learn.”

Inspectors found the practice had continuously met the 95% World Health Organisation target for achieving childhood immunisations.

Laurbel Surgery made it easy for people to access appointments: 89% of people fed back via the GP survey that they found it easy to get through to the practice by phone, 95% found it easy to contact them using their website and 92% found it easy to contact them GP practice using the NHS app.

Practice Manager Susan Moody said: “The Surgery is very pleased with the recent CQC report. It is nice to receive appreciation and good feedback as to the service we provide for Bilton and surrounding Villages.

“Dr Jaiveloo and myself, would like to thank all staff for providing exceptional care to the Practice Community. The CQC report reflects the high quality of patient centred commitment of the entire team in providing good quality patient care.

“Care provided by clinical staff, and compassion and care provided by the administration team.”
