Hull City are in talks with MLS club Atlanta United over a deal that would see Steven Alzate move to America and bring an end to his spell in East Yorkshire. Alzate has been out with City at their pre-season training camp in Turkey but did not take part in a single training session, nor was he involved in the two friendlies against Istanbulspor or Kasimpasa, which the Tigers won.
The Colombian midfielder had been the subject of interest from Valencia and Getafe in Spain this summer, while Championship rivals Sheffield United had cast an eye. Despite former City boss Ruben Selles moving to Bramall Lane, a move for the 26-year-old has not progressed and it’s Major League Soccer which looks to be Alzate’s next destination.
Hull Live understands City have agreed a fee with Atlanta with a three-and-a-half-year deal on the table for the midfielder, who arrived at the MKM Stadium on a free transfer in September and went on to play 28 times in the Championship for the club.
The Tigers have sanctioned the move after Alzate made it clear he wanted the chance to speak to Atlanta, who are managed by former Celtic boss Ronny Deila and are towards the bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference. They lost 3-2 at home to Charlotte over the weekend to leave them five points clear of bottom side Montreal.
Alzate’s imminent departure will see him join Sean McLoughlin in departing the MKM Stadium. McLoughlin left City’s camp in Riva on Thursday to head back to England and seal a move to Blackburn Rovers.
Alfie Jones could be next through the exit door, with talks ongoing with Middlesbrough over a permanent switch from the MKM Stadium to the Riverside Stadium and doubt remains about Gustavo Puerta’s future amid the ongoing troubles with the EFL.
