Hull KR have launched a move for Hull FC half-back Jack Charles as they try to complete a deal that will send shockwaves across the city. All Out Rugby League understands the Robins are keen on acquiring the teenager, and there are growing suggestions that he will be at Craven Park next season.
Rovers are understood to be big admirers of the Hull half-back and are now confident they can acquire the player in a deal that would see him make a dramatic cross-city switch.
Charles is currently under contract at Hull for the 2026 season and has been spoken about previously as one of the FC’s big hopes for the future in what has been a problem position to fill.. Given his contract status, it’s understood the two clubs have come to an arrangement to allow him to leave the MKM Stadium for Sewell Group Craven Park, with a transfer fee likely to have been paid.
The 19-year-old fits perfectly with the recruitment strategy taken at Rovers in recent months, with players under the age of 24 sought as a focus is placed on ensuring that their stronghold at the top of the Super League competition doesn’t slip in the coming years.
That has seen the East Hull outfit recruit the likes of Connor Wynne for next year, formerly of Hull FC, while Bill Leyland, Jack Broadbent, and co. have been signed with an eye on the future.
Meanwhile, Charles, son of former Rovers player Chris Charles, made his first-team debut for Hull last season and went on to make 17 appearances for the club. He returned to the first-team this year after two pre-season injuries and has made a further three appearances off the bench, including in last Thursday’s win over Wakefield Trinity.
He has also played on dual reg at Doncaster in the Championship and has featured for the reserves in recent weeks—including a derby win over Hull FC. Charles would be the latest high-profile signing to cross the Hull divide, with Rovers’ current side featuring former Black and White trio Jez Litten, Dean Hadley, and Jack Brown.
The Robins also made a move for Hull teenage trio Callum Kemp, Lloyd Kemp, and Ryan Westerman last year, as exclusively reported by Hull Live. However, the three players instead signed new deals with the Airlie Birds.
While those three opted to stay in West Hull, it’s expected now that Rovers will get their man in Charles – with the half-back adorning the red and white next year.
