Jonjo Shelvey will have another big chance to earn a contract at Hull City over the next seven days as the Tigers make their annual pilgrimage to Istanbul.
Shelvey, who left Burnley at the end of the season, has been training with City since the early days of pre-season in a bid to secure a deal at the MKM Stadium.
It’s expected that the 33-year-old former Newcastle United and Liverpool star will be on the flight out of Humberside Airport on Sunday morning, as City begin their seven-day training camp in Riva, at the home of the Turkish FA.
City wrapped up their second week of training at Cottingham with a second behind-closed-doors friendly at Cottingham on Saturday, ahead of Sunday’s trip abroad, with Tyrell Sellars-Fleming scoring the winner against Grimsby Town.
During their week-long trip to Istanbul, City will play two friendlies. The first coming against second division side Istanbulspor on Tuesday evening at Riva, before facing Kasimpasa at the Super Lig club’s training ground on Saturday. The Tigers then head home on July 20 to begin their domestic campaign, which kicks off against Stockport County on July 26.
The Tigers will also hope Ryan Giles will be fit to take some part, having been struggling with an ankle problem since pre-season training kicked off at the end of June.
Their warm-weather training camp will also provide another opportunity for Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi to continue their progress in their recovery from their respective ACL injuries.
