A free music festival in an East Yorkshire village raising money for local charities is being held in memory of a “caring and thoughtful” young woman.

Hollie Tennent, from Sproatley, was just 20 years old when she died on August 22 in 2022. In the three years since, friends and family have raised an incredible £33,000 in her memory, split between Dove House Hospice and Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.

Music lover Hollie enjoyed singing and dancing, so a festival called Holliefest was set up in her honour last year. After the success of the first festival, it is returning on Sunday, July 13, and will be held at The Constable Arms in Sproatley.

From 1pm until 9pm, there will be entertainment and live music by local performers. Acts confirmed include the bands Kinda Queen, The Gallaghers, Up To 11, Rapture, and solo artist Rio. There will also be food at the festival, including a barbecue and a hog roast.

Hollie’s mum Joanne Tennent said: “Our total so far since we started fundraising – this is our third year of fundraising and second year of Holliefest – so far we have raised over £33,000 shared between the two charities.

“I want to say thanks to everybody who has been part of the event and for all the support we receive from family and friends.

“Without them, obviously we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”

In a tribute to her daughter at the 2023 inquest, Joanne said Hollie “loved life” and had many friends, being a “very caring and thoughtful person”.

She said: “She had a lot of talents and loved animals. She was really into singing when she was younger and even entered Britain’s Got Talent and she took part in lots of different sports such as gymnastics, netball and football. She was very popular.”
