The future of Steven Alzate at Hull City has been a source of discussion for much of the off-season so far amid significant interest in the Colombian midfielder. Alzate, who arrived at City on a free transfer after the summer transfer window closed, was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal campaign at the MKM Stadium.
The 26-year-old has interest from clubs in La Liga, while former Tigers boss Ruben Selles is eyeing up a move to take Alzate to Sheffield United after taking over at Bramall Lane last week.
Selles remains a big fan of the former Brighton and Hove Albion man and could move to take the influential midfielder to Sheffield this summer, with City open to selling if the price is right..
Goodman believes Alzate would be a good fit for the Blades, having caught the eye in what was a highly disappointing season for the Tigers.
“It’s not a particular surprise that Ruben Selles would be having a keen eye on Steven Alzate,” Goodman said in conversation with FLW. “He was one of Hull City’s very, very few successes, really, in what was an incredibly disappointing season at Hull last season.
“He came in and he did pretty well, all told. Still in his prime, 26 years old, and managers tend to like players they worked with before or ones they tend to think are reliable and consistent.
“I think he probably falls into that category. In terms of replacing Vini Souza, I think if I’m Sheffield United, I’m doing everything you can to keep Vini Souza, and maybe adding Steven Alzate to strengthen it.”
