Popular noodle bar Chopstix has submitted plans to open its first outlet in Hull.
The pan-Asian chain already has more than 100 sites across the UK with more seemingly popping up all the time. Despite there being locations in nearby cities such as Leeds and Lincoln, Hull has so far remained Chopstix-less.
The application sets out the brand’s ambitions of opening a site at the corner of King Edward Street and Jameson Street, in between McDonald’s and Three.
The site, which currently sits empty, was previously occupied by T-Mobile, then subsequently EE following T-Mobile’s merger with Orange UK in the early 2010s.

Works to the site would include the installation of ventilation equipment to facilitate the kitchen area. As the site has previously been retail space, such facilities are not in place.
Despite being a rather short street in the centre of Hull, King Edward Street has a high number of vacant units. Planning documents submitted to the council state: “The proposed development will create additional employment in the local area, reduce the level of vacancy within the city centre and result in substantial investment in the fitting out of the unit.”
The documents also claim that there has previously been “no viable interest in the unit for retail use.”
Chopstix is the “largest Asian-inspired quick serve” restaurant chain in the UK. It was founded in London’s Camden Market more than two decades ago before expanding its range of noodle offerings around the country.
It claims to “serve all our customers in under a minute” with “the fastest servers on the high street” because of the simplicity of its recipes. On its website, the company also says its “food is so fresh it virtually jumps from our Woks to our Boxes”, adding it serves “nourishing noodles, wholesome chicken, beautiful beef and perfect prawns, cooked with fresh vegetables and superb sauces making us the ‘go to guys’ for boxed fresh flavours”.
Chopstix says its dishes are “jam packed with Asian flavours that tantalise the taste buds” with a toppings range that “will take you to a world of wonder”.
