
Armed police were called to west Hull following reports of a man carrying a knife this afternoon.
Humberside Police said a 49-year-old man remains in custody after being detained at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
In a statement, the force said: “A man has been arrested after we were called to reports of a man carrying a knife at around 12.35pm on Hessle Road in Hull this afternoon (Wednesday, 25 June).
“For the safety of the public, armed response officers were deployed, and a man was swiftly arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.”
Detective Inspector Tracy St Paul said: “I understand an incident of this nature will be concerning for the local community; however, I want to offer my reassurance that a 49-year-old man has been arrested and remains in our custody at this time.
‘’Officers remain in the area carrying out lines of enquiry and speaking with local residents to provide reassurance. If anyone has any concerns, please come and speak to them.
