Central defender Andy Smith has become the latest departure from Hull City, and he won’t be the last, as the MKM Stadium’s summer shake-up continues.
Smith has joined Gillingham on a permanent deal, which brings an end to an association with the Tigers that began when he joined the club at the age of nine having progressed through the club’s academy.
The Banbury-born 23-year-old ended the campaign on loan with the Gills, and will now call the Priestfield Stadium his home after City sanctioned his departure.
Smith made his senior debut in a 3-2 victory against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Trophy in January 2021 and went on to make his league debut against Cardiff City in December 2023.
He’s also had loan spells at Salford City, Cheltenham Town and Grimsby Town before heading to Kent late on in the winter transfer window, where he made 12 appearances, but didn’t feature in the final seven games through injury.
The departure of the centre-back is the latest exit from the MKM Stadium, following on from the exits of Joao Pedro, Xavier Simons and Thimothee Lo-Tutala.
Anthony Racioppi’s move to FC Sion in Switzerland is done and awaiting an announcement from both respective clubs, while Abdus Omur is expected to seal a move back to Turkey, and more will follow.
