A city centre hotel was evacuated following a fire in a third-floor room, fire chiefs said.
Crews were called to The Royal Hotel, next to Hull’s railway station, at about 18:00 BST on Monday.
Speaking to BBC Look North at the scene, station manager Ryan Murawa said details were “sketchy” but added “it would appear the fire might have started in a bin”.
There were no reports of any injuries, said Mr Murawa, adding an investigation would seek to establish the cause.
