Hull KR forward Sauaso Sue admits he “never wants to be in that position again” after his Challenge Cup buzz was brought to a halt for a spitting allegation following the Wembley win.
The 33-year-old was ultimately found not guilty of the Grade E charge by an independent operational rules tribunal last Tuesday, avoiding what could have been a minimum of a six-match ban.
Sue has discussed the allegations for the first time, amid a “crazy” week after the club ended their trophy hoodoo in the capital.
“It was pretty nerve-racking to be fair. The process took a long time and I was happy with the result,” Sue said.
“I don’t want to be in that position again. I’ll make sure I’m not spitting near people again, or even spitting at all, which is the main takeaway from that.”
The ex-Samoa international was represented by Hull KR owner and solicitor Neil Hudgell and his team at the tribunal, in which the panel determined that the player did not spit ‘deliberately in the direction of a Warrington player’.
“Him and his team represented me really well, so I’m really grateful for their time and getting me off my charge,” Sue added.
The outcome freed up the prop to help his side refocus back on the domestic competition, inflicting Catalans Dragons’ biggest-ever Super League defeat with a 68-6 win – including two tries from Sue on either side of half-time.
It was a statement performance to the rest of Super League, avoiding any fears of a cup hangover and maintaining their spot at the top of the table.
“It’s been crazy, winning the Challenge Cup and then a couple of days to sober up and back at Craven Park on Friday,” Sue added.
“It was pretty surreal. We celebrated, then had to stop to get ready for Friday. It was crazy and I’d do it all over again.
“The tries don’t come around often – and a double as well, I was over the moon.”
