A Hull couple are hoping for double celebrations on Saturday – with their wedding day set to coincide with the Challenge Cup final.

Wendy Burdick and Colin Greenwood are tying the knot on the same day their beloved Hull KR take on Warrington Wolves at Wembley. The couple had booked their wedding before the Challenge Cup final date was confirmed.

They missed the 2023 Challenge Cup final against Leigh due to a holiday, while Colin attended the famous 1980 10-5 victory over rivals Hull FC – Rovers’ only Challenge Cup victory to date.

Wendy and Colin have been together for 17 years. 50 friends and family members will attend the daytime ceremony, with 100 expected for the evening celebration – many of them fellow Robins supporters.

But Wendy has insisted she will be happy for guests to watch the final on their phones during the meal, which coincides with the match’s kick-off.

“We booked the wedding February 2024, and just asked for the first weekend of June,” Wendy laughed.

“A few months later, it came up on Facebook about the Challenge Cup final being in June. Colin replied, ‘Please don’t say June the seventh!’

“Colin has always had a ‘Rovers Forever’ pass and I’ve got a pass too. When I was younger, I lived on Ings Road and from then I went to Rovers with friends.

“The wedding is at 1:00pm, and we’ll be at the reception by 3:00pm. So we’re going to try to get the speeches done before then, and people can have their phones on their tables if they want to!

“My brother is 72 and a big Hull KR supporter, and I rang him and said, ‘If you want to go, please don’t think you’re letting us down.’

“He just said, ‘You’re my sister, you mean more to me than rugby,’ which made me cry.

“We keep saying it’ll be a double celebration that night if Hull KR win, and we think they will!”
