An affordable housing development is set to add new homes to Hopewell Road in East Hull.

Plans for the construction of ten affordable homes on a piece of land to the north of Hopewell Road were first approved by Hull City Council in November 2023.

The application, which described Hopewell Road as “an established and attractive residential area,” was submitted on behalf of the council and forms a part of the Small Sites Initiative which is a part of the council’s efforts to build houses in the city. A six-house affordable housing development which sits directly west of the application site formed part of a previous phase of the Small Sites Initiative.

The application explains that the ten houses will consist of four two-storey 3-bedroom houses and six single-storey two-bedroom houses. Each of the ten houses have been allocated two car parking spaces which will be on the same plot of land of the houses themselves.

Each of the properties has a garden to the rear and considerable space at the front due to the houses being somewhat set-back from the main road. In terms of appearance, planning documents state: “The housing will contain brick facades and duo pitched roofs to ensure that they sit comfortably in the setting and enhance the character of the area..”

This week, the council has given the green light to a set of slight amendments to the plans that were previously approved in late 2023. These alterations include the removal of the previously proposed metal fences in between each properties’ front garden. It is claimed that this will help in the maintenance of the gardens.
