Setting the scene
The Tigers will be looking to make it five straight wins from their six friendlies so far, and they’ll come up against a Sunderland side preparing for life in the Premier League, smarting from a 3-0 defeat at Hearts on Saturday.
Since their 1-0 win at Stockport County on Saturday, City have sanctioned the departure of match-winner Mason Burstow to Bolton Wanderers, and have not yet been able to bring anyone in. Despite Sergej Jakirovic hoping there were some deals close, nothing has yet been confirmed by the EFL, so their squad remains woefully short of where it needs to be for the season opener next Saturday.
That may change, but City still look critically short of goals in attack and that’s something they’ll hope to resolve in the very near future.
For fans, after another summer of off-field turmoil, actually watching a game of football will be some form of relief this evening against the Black Cats.
