Luke Robinson has admitted some tough conversations have taken place at Huddersfield Giants this week ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash against Hull FC.
The Giants were hammered 46-10 by Wakefield Trinity last week and have just three Super League wins to their name all season. That has seen them rooted to 11th place in the table, with Robinson now preparing for a third meeting against Hull this year.
Meanwhile, Robinson has challenged his side to ‘stay in the fight’ at the MKM Stadium and find things to play for with eight rounds of the season still to go. They defeated Hull back at Magic Weekend, with their other two wins coming against Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves.
But with the play-offs out of sight, Robinson, in his first full season in charge, is looking for pride and the like to reignite their year after what looked like a promising mid-season spell.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Robinson said: “We’ve had some very tough conversations, very open and honest. We thought we were on an upward curve and building a little bit of momentum. To put in that performance wasn’t good enough. Hopefully we get a response this weekend. We’ve got to make sure we stay in the fight.
“It’s very easy to say you don’t have anything to play for, but we need to find a reason that when you pull the Huddersfield shirt on, you are playing with pride. When you’re playing with your team-mate at the side of you, you’re playing for them.
“You’re playing for yourself as much as anything else. You’re playing for individual honour and the honour that you carry with you for your family.
“For the club, the badge and fans, we need to find our motivation for the rest of the year.”
