Hull City Ladies are looking forward to the new season ahead of their first summer friendly match.
The Tigresses entertain Leeds United at North Ferriby FC on Sunday – their new home ground having moved from the Easy Buy Stadium in Barton-upon-Humber to be closer to the city.
With a new management committee and additional staff to support the team now in place, players are hopeful they can enjoy a successful campaign.
Darcie Sugden-Brooke said: “I want us to at least finish top five, as I do think we have a group and new facilities that can push us that high.”
Sugden-Brooke added: “The new players, the new support, the new staff and the whole training set-up has really given us the leg-up we need.
“Now, we’re hungry to win.”
Sophie Tinson, who joined the team in November, said there was a positive spirit within the group.
“All the girls, everyone [is] together. It’s a very together club, so fingers crossed it’s a good season,” she said.
“The attitude from the girls has become really positive. You can tell from training we all get on together and that’s what makes us Hull City Ladies.”
New staff include strength and conditioning coaches, which physio Jamie Lee Robinson hopes will help reduce the number of injuries from last season.
She said: “We racked up quite a few injuries, which is hard as we want to avoid as many as possible.
“From week one of coming back we’ve implemented strong rehab plans.
“We’ve had a really good increase in staff after coming back and we have a bar to match this season, which we missed last season, but I think it will give us a great position in the table.”
Ms Robinson said she had already seen an increase in participation in ladies football across East Yorkshire, especially in grassroots football.
The team is now hoping England can win the Women’s Euro 2025 final on Sunday, which she believes will give the sport a further boost ahead of the new season.
The kick-off time for Sunday’s match has been changed to 12:00 BST to avoid clashing with the Lionesses and to allow fans the chance to watch both matches.
Hull City Ladies were founded in 2001 and are not associated with Hull City’s men’s team.
They finished eighth in the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division last season and the upcoming season starts on August 17.
In May, co-owner Daniel Johnson was accused of misusing £250,000 of club funds and was also accused of gambling on its matches and making sexualised remarks to players.
He has not responded to several attempts made by the BBC to contact him.
