Hull KR remain on track to statistically become Super League’s best-ever defensive side.

The Robins top the league ladder after 19 rounds and boast the best defensive record in the competition, having conceded just 180 points in 19 games.

That works out at 9.47 points per game, which is marginally better than the current record set by a team. The 1998 Wigan Warriors side currently holds the record for fewest points conceded per game throughout a campaign, with an average of 9.65.

Rovers were well below that until recently and were conceding just 8.25 points per game at one point. But they conceded 14 points to Leeds Rhinos and then 28 to Leigh Leopards, which has seen that average go up considerably in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, they remain on course to break that defensive record set, even if their room for manoeuvre is smaller now than before.

To break the record, Rovers can concede no more than 260 points throughout the season. So in essence, they can leak 80 points in their next eight games, an average of ten points per match.

They got back on track on Saturday, conceding just six points against Catalans Dragons. With Salford up next, the team with the worst attacking record in the competition, they will hope to build on that once again.
