A 61-year-old woman suffered “serious injuries” when she was struck by a car while cycling down Holderness Road in Hull yesterday.

Humberside Police said the incident happened at around 4:20pm when a cyclist and Citroen Picasso were in a collision. The road was closed to traffic in both directions, but later reopened.

The force said the driver of the car stopped at the scene and has been assisting with enquiries. Anyone who has CCTV or dashcam, or who witnessed the incident, is urged to get in touch on the non-emergency 101 number.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision between a cyclist and a car on Holderness Road near Barnsley Street, Hull, at approximately 4.20pm on Tuesday, 22 July,

“We were called to reports of a collision involving a silver Citroen Picasso and a cyclist. The car and the cyclist were travelling eastbound along Holderness Road when they are alleged to have collided.

“The road was closed at the junction with Mount Pleasant to Barnsley Street to allow emergency services to work safely and has since been re-opened.

“The cyclist, a 61 year-old- woman, was taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting us whilst our enquiries continue.
