A new weather warning for thunderstorms across East Yorkshire has been issued for Monday (July 21).

The Met Office yellow warning covers the hours from 11am to 9pm on Monday, with forecasters saying: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to flooding and disruption in a few places.” The advice follows a previous warning of thunderstorm risks from Friday evening into today (Saturday, July 19).

The Met Office said there the potentially “disruptive” storms were being fuelled by “a warm and humid airmass”. Today’s warning covers the whole of East Yorkshire, up to 9pm tonight, and also includes large swathes of England, with Scotland and parts of the south-west of England continuing with yellow warnings for rain.

On Sunday, the warnings for heavy rain become confined to Scotland, parts of Wales and the south-west of England, but the thunderstorms come into play again for many areas on Monday.

Meteorologists have said conditions will continue to be “warm and muggy” and “remaining unsettled”. Today’s headline, said the Met Office, was for “areas of thundery rain moving north” and feeling “rather humid”.

A spokesperson said: “Torrential downpours may cause difficult conditions in places. Tonight, rain, thundery at times will continue across northern areas.”

Sunday would feel “fresher than recent days but still warm, particularly in any sunny spells”. Of the outlook for early next week, they said: “Low pressure lingers, keeping conditions unsettled with sunny spells and heavy showers.

“Showers will gradually ease by Wednesday, with temperatures staying close to the seasonal average.”
