Sean McLoughlin’s move to Blackburn Rovers has been confirmed by Hull City. It’s understood Rovers will pay City in the region of £500,000 to take the Irishman to Ewood Park.
McLoughlin, City’s longest serving player, arrived from Cork City in 2019 and went on to play 146 times for the Tigers in the Championship and League One. He said his goodbyes to his City teammates at Riva on Thursday before heading back to England to complete the formalities of his switch from Yorkshire to Lancashire.
Rovers were keen to sign McLoughlin 12 months ago but City fended off that interest, but McLoughlin has now opted to move on in a bid to play regular football, something he found difficult with the Tigers, especially in his favoured central defensive role. He had entered the final 12 months of his City deal.
City will now step up their attempts to bring in cover in central defence, with Alfie Jones also expected to complete a move to Middlesbrough in the coming days.
The Tigers are hopeful of landing a free transfer target to come in and provide competition for Semi Ajayi, Charlie Hughes and John Egan.
