It remains unclear where Alfie Jones will be playing his football next season. As first reported by Hull Live, the centre-back is attracting interest from Middlesbrough.
Boro have been in talks with Hull City over a move for Jones, with talk of a potential £2m switch to the Riverside Stadium. The Tigers’ Championship rivals are under new management this summer, having appointed Rob Edwards as Michael Carrick’s successor.
But fresh reports from the Daily Mail suggest that Wrexham are ready to enter the race to sign the 27-year-old. The national newspaper claims the Welsh club are weighing up a £3m move for Jones.
However, the expectation at City remains that Boro will be Jones’ destination this summer as the two clubs close in on an agreement. Jones is currently with the rest of the Tigers squad on their pre-season training camp in Turkey. He could feature in their friendly with Kasimpasa tomorrow afternoon.
Jones, voted City’s player of the year in 2023, is now in the final year of his contract. The defender, who has been at the MKM Stadium since arriving from Southampton on an initial one-year deal back in September 2020 ahead of the Covid-hit title-winning season in League One, has made over 190 appearances for the club, scoring twice.
His Tigers teammate, Sean McLoughlin, is on the brink of joining Blackburn Rovers. McLoughlin has agreed a long-term contract at Ewood Park and it’s understood the City will receive around £500,000 for his signature.
