EDF is providing households with a £500 reduction on air source heat pump installations through a summer promotion aimed at encouraging uptake of the environmentally-friendly technology. The promotion, which continues until midnight on August 10, is additional to estimated yearly energy bill reductions of £351 – creating a combined potential saving of £851 for families making the transition.
The offer means a complete air source heat pump system – incorporating design and installation – can now begin from just £4,080 after the £7,500 government Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant is applied.
EDF is also providing a special “Heat Pump and Save Tracker” tariff that eliminates the standing charge for twelve months, contributing towards the £351 yearly saving. Additionally, customers receive six hours of reduced-price zero-carbon electricity daily during off-peak times (4am–7am and 1pm–4pm).

How do heat pumps work?
Air source heat pumps operate by extracting heat from outdoor air and utilising it to heat the property and supply hot water. Even during cold weather, they can capture ambient heat and transfer it inside through a process comparable to that used in refrigerators, but reversed.
The systems perform most efficiently in well-insulated properties and can be over three times as energy-efficient as conventional gas boilers. EDF is championing the shift towards eco-friendly heating solutions as part of the national drive for net zero and to cut down on fossil fuel dependency.
The company is advancing this initiative through its EDF Heat Pumps division, previously known as CB Heating, a leading heat pump expert in the UK.
Philippe Commaret, Managing Director of Customers at EDF, said: “We want to help as many households as possible experience the benefits of switching to more efficient heating systems, but understand for many the upfront costs can be daunting.
“That’s why we’re thrilled to offer customers better prices on heat pumps this summer. With EDF Heat Pumps’ accredited network of trusted installers on hand to provide a seamless and high-quality service, now is an ideal time for customers to start preparing their homes for the cooler months ahead.”
Additionally, the firm is incentivising customers with a £250 referral bonus for each successful installation that comes from a recommendation. EDF Heat Pumps, which has earned the accolade of a Which? Trusted Trader, boasts of having fitted thousands of units throughout the UK and enjoys a five-star rating on Trustpilot.
How much can households save?
The average saving of £351 is calculated on the premise that a heat pump with a coefficient of performance (CoP) of 3.1 replaces a 94% efficient gas boiler heating a home using 11,500kWh of gas annually. This includes £164 in energy efficiency savings and £187 from the elimination of the daily electricity standing charge under EDF’s tracker tariff.
While the most affordable systems start at just over £4,000 with the grant, additional costs may be incurred depending on a property’s heating system and whether radiators require upgrading. EDF’s offer is part of a wider trend in the energy sector, with firms providing more incentives for households to transition to low-carbon heating in response to ongoing government pressure to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency.
