A volunteer for a Hull cat charity is raising money to pay towards a £15,000 veterinary bill.
Charlie Marie Kenealy, 33, from east Hull, began helping out at Jenny’s Cat House after the charity took in a stray cat she found with horrific injuries.
“My involvement with Jenny’s Cat House began when I was desperately seeking help for George, a very sick and injured tom cat who was dying on the streets,” she said. “I had reached out to large organisations like the RSPCA and got nowhere.
“But when I messaged Jenny, even though she runs a small rescue, she didn’t hesitate to help.” Sadly, George died despite efforts to save him, but the charity cares for, neuters and rehomes stray cats as pets into suitable homes.
A Just Giving fundraiser launched by Charlie has, at the time of writing, raised nearly £2,000 of the £15,000 goal.

Charlie said: “I set up the fundraiser because Jenny is such a humble person. She wouldn’t ask for help in the way I have, even when faced with an astronomical vet bill.
“But I knew I had to step up, because people like Jenny, and the animals she fights for, deserve all the support we can give.”
Charlie, who lives with several long-term health conditions, said Jenny had supported her and “helped me believe that, even with my limitations, I could make a difference for the forgotten cats of Hull.”

She helps with adoption write-ups, runs the Instagram page, and visits the rescue whenever she can.
Charlie added: “With time, and with the support of my partner and a few trusted friends, I’ve been able to visit the rescue to take photos and meet some of the cats I write about.
“Jenny has never pressured me or asked too much. She just gives me the space and encouragement to be a part of something bigger and I truly feel like part of an incredible team.
“Jenny does so much, quietly and without expecting recognition. But the truth is, she can’t do it alone.
“The fundraisers, shares, donations, car boot sales, tombolas, none of it would be possible without the support of kind-hearted people, including my amazing little village who take time out their lives to help me as I can’t do anything alone.
“And without that support, Jenny wouldn’t be able to keep helping cats like George. She deserves so much more support than she realises.”
