Blackburn Rovers are keen to try and strike a deal for Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin with an expectation the player will soon be departing the club. Hull Live reported earlier this month that Rovers retained their interest from 12 months ago when a deal was talked about, and now they are hopeful of getting it wrapped up in the next few days.

McLoughlin is currently away in Turkey at City’s training camp and at this stage will remain with the group as talks between the clubs and his agent are held. The defender could depart Turkey early if talks progress quickly, but regardless of how quick an agreement is now reached it is expected he will complete a permanent move to Ewood Park.

The 28-year-old from Cork joined City in 2019 and played 146 times for the Tigers, with 126 of those coming in the Championship. Despite being one of the club’s longest serving players, he’s been unable to pin down a regular berth in the centre of defence.

Last term, the Irishman played 37 times with 20 of those coming in the middle of the back four, but ended the campaign as the club’s left-back. McLoughlin’s imminent departure leaves City with Charlie Hughes, Semi Ajayi and John Egan amid a growing expectation Alfie Jones will leave to join Middlesbrough.
