Leigh Leopards boss Adrian Lam says he’s “not interested” in claims one of his players may have injured Hull KR ’s Danny Richardson with an illegal tackle. Scrum-half Richardson could be out for up to three months after suffering an ankle injury in the 12th minute of the Robins’ defeat at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday.
Coach Willie Peters wasn’t happy with the Edwin Ipape challenge that led to his player being crocked. He said yesterday: “We were trying to get a bit of clarification around the tackle because he’s obviously come down on his legs. Is that a hangar tackle?
“It looked very likely as one because the player has injured his ankle, and that’s what we’re trying to take away.
“I want a bit of clarification around what the reason for it is there. We’ve lost a player now for ten to 12 weeks.”
Lam was asked in his press conference today whether he had any comment on Peters’ being unhappy that the disciplinary chiefs had not taken any action on his player.
Lam replied: “No, I’ve got nothing to say about it. Not interested.”
Richardson, who has had spells on loan at Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils this term, was given a rare chance to impress with Man of Steel Mikey Lewis sidelined.
But there’s a chance his season could now be over. Peters admitted: “It’s not good at all. He’s worked hard to make sure he’s been ready to go whenever he plays, and he did that at the weekend.
“The injury is unfortunate, and he wanted to battle on, which is brave of him because he had some fractures. It’s a credit to him that he wanted to battle on, but we had to get him off.”
Lam, meanwhile, also wants less chat on Josh Charnley after the ex-England winger – who started his Super League career on loan at the Robins in 2010 – was again centre of attention ahead of Thursday’s huge game against St Helens.
Back in from the cold, the 34 year-old scored two tries in the win against KR but still hasn’t been offered a new deal for 2026 amid speculation he could leave at the end of the season
Asked if all the talk wasn’t helpful as they try to press on in Super League, Lam insisted: “I don’t want to talk too much more about that apart from the game. It’s probably our biggest game of the season tomorrow. I don’t want that to be a talking point.
“We’re underway with that [discussions]. Whether that’s a positive outcome or not, that will be decided in the future. All I know is he’s playing some good rugby, has scored 251 tries and we’ve got some great assists there from Lockie Lam who’s leading the try-scoring assists in Super League.”
